Despite a pair of home runs from Adrian Marquez, the #25-ranked Wright State baseball team dropped its second straight at #4 South Carolina Saturday, falling to the #4-ranked Gamecocks 10-5.
It was all South Carolina over the first six innings as after the Gamecocks scored three in the bottom of the first, they added another in the fourth and six more in the sixth to build a 10-0 lead.
The Raiders, though, answered back with three runs in the seventh. After Daniel Arthur had a pinch-hit double to right and Kevin Whatley was hit by a pitch, Adrian Marquez connected on his first home run of the season, a three-run shot to right.
WSU then added two more in the ninth and Marquez again led the way with his second home run of the game, a solo blast to right. Wright State then added another run in the frame as Gabe Snyder was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, but could get no closer.
Marquez, Snyder and Zach Weatherford each had two hits for the Raiders.
Wright State (2-3) will try to salvage the final game of the series, which takes place Sunday afternoon at 1:30.
