WSU shot 52 percent from the field in the first half, including five of 11 from three-point range, while Northern Kentucky shot 41 percent, but NKU also made nine of 15 free throws compared to four for four for Wright State.
A Davis jumper to start the second half made it a six-point game, but the Norse tied it with an 8-2 run and there were four more ties until Alstork put the Raiders ahead 61-60 with two free throws at the 8:02 mark.
Dantez Walton, though, put Northern Kentucky up for good with a layup and three and the margin was five before an Alstork three made 76-74 with a minute left.
Jordan Garnett hit a desperation three at the 27.3-second mark to again extend the lead to five, but Benzinger answered with a three with 21.4 seconds to go.
Wright State, though, would get no closer as Drew McDonald hit all four of his foul shot attempts over the final 13.8 seconds, including a pair with 3.7 seconds remaining.
WSU continued its hot shooting in the second half, hitting 14 of 28 shots to finish the night at 51 percent overall, but the Norse shot 57 percent to end at 49 percent overall. NKU was 18 of 27 at the foul line compared to 11 of 15 for the Raiders.
Alstork led all scorers with 27 points for Wright State, while Mitchell had 18 points and nine rebounds and Davis added 15 points.
Wright State (15-9, 6-5 Horizon) continues the homestand with two games next weekend, hosting Milwaukee on Thursday, February 9, and Green Bay on Saturday, February 11, with both starting at 7:00.
