Baseball Wins Over Pittsburgh

The Wright State baseball team won its fourth straight game Sunday, defeating Pittsburgh 3-1 in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

WSU opened the scoring with two runs in the third.  With one out, Kevin Whatley had a bunt single and scored as Brandon Giltrow doubled the left field line.  One out later, Zach Weatherford doubled to left center to plate Giltrow with the second run.

Pittsburgh cut the deficit in half with a solo home run in the fourth and it remained 2-1 until the Raiders picked up an insurance run in the seventh.  Daniel Arthur led off with a hit and pinch-runner Alex Alders went to second on a Whatley bunt and to third on a wild pitch.  Giltrow then delivered a single through the left side of the infield to drive in Alders.

Daniel Sexton (3-0) earned the win as he gave up only a run on three hits and a walk in eight innings while striking out five.  Derek Hendrixson recorded his second save of the year by retiring the Panthers in order in the ninth.

Giltrow finished with two hits and two RBI to pace the Raider offense.

Wright State (7-4) travels to Lexington to take on the Kentucky Wildcats on Tuesday, March 7, at 4:00 before opening its home schedule next weekend.
