Baseball Wins Wild 10-Inning Game With Oakland

The Wright State baseball team saw a 7-0 lead slip away in the late innings, only to see the offense come alive in the 10th for a 13-9 Horizon League victory over Oakland Saturday at Nischwitz Stadium.

The Raiders took the lead with five runs in the third.  With two outs, Matt Morrow tripled in Zach Weatherford, who reached on an infield single.  JD Orr then drove in Morrow with a double to left and after Adrian Marquez walked, Alex Alders hit his first collegiate home run, a three-run shot to left.

Nick Weybright doubled in a run in the fourth and the margin grew to 7-0 in the fifth on a Seth Gray RBI single, but the Golden Grizzlies chipped away at the deficit from there with single runs in the fifth, eighth and ninth and four in the seventh to force extra innings.

In the 10th, Alders led off with a walk after being down in the count 0-2 and Gabe Snyder followed with a two-run homer, his third of the season, on a 1-2 pitch to make it 9-7.  A Gray triple and a Weatherford double produced another run and Weybright plated Weatherford with a hit to left.  The final two runs came in on a fielder's choice and a throwing error on a steal attempt.

Oakland answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning, but would get no closer as a double play cleared the bases before a pop up ended the game.

WSU starting pitcher Ryan Weiss struck out five in five innings and allowed just one run, but came away with a no decision as Jeremy Randolph (2-0) picked up the win in relief.

Offensively, Morrow had three hits while Gray, Weatherford and Weybright had two each.  Alders led the way with three RBI with Orr, Snyder and Weybright driving in two.  Weatherford scored three times.

Wright State (17-7, 8-0 Horizon) looks to complete the series sweep with the final game Sunday at 1:00.
