Baseball Wins Series Opener at Northern Kentucky

The Wright State baseball team scored six runs over a four-inning span to win its Horizon League series opener at Northern Kentucky Friday 7-3.

WSU opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the third on a Seth Gray two-run single and added another run in the fourth as Kevin Whatley singled in Alex Alders

After adding another run in the fifth on a Whatley ground out, the Raider margin grew to 6-3 with a pair of runs in the sixth on back-to-back home runs from Adrian Marquez and Gabe Snyder.  It was the sixth of the season for Marquez and the eighth for Snyder.

Wright State rounded out its scoring in the ninth as Zach Weatherford walked, stolen second and scored on a Brandon Giltrow hit to right.

Danny Sexton (7-0) earned the win by pitching the first six innings, scattering nine hits and a walk while striking out four.  Mark Meyer picked up his second save of the year by retiring all nine batters he faced over three innings, striking out three.

At the plate, Gray and Whatley each had two hits and two RBI while Snyder also had two hits and Marquez scored two runs.

Wright State (28-12, 14-3 Horizon) and Northern Kentucky (15-26, 8-9 Horizon) continue the weekend series with a single game on Saturday starting at 1:00.
