The Wright State women's basketball program has announced the addition of four new student-athletes for the 2017-18 season, head coach Katrina Merriweather announced today. Joining the Raiders will be Kiana Adderton, Tyler Frierson, Breaunna Lloyd and Nia Sumpter.
Â
Adderton, a 6-1 forward from Myrtle Beach, SC (Myrtle Beach High), led her team to an 85-26 record throughout her high school career, and was a State Runner-up as a junior.  She averaged 21 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and six steals per game during her senior year.  Additionally, during her senior year, she was selected as the 4A Region Player of the Year and was a member in the North/South All-Star game. Throughout her high school career, she was a two-time all-state selection (2015 and 2017), a three-time Miss Hoop Zone Finalist (2015, 2016, and 2017), scored over 1,000 points and was a three-time Toast of the Coast selection. Adderton was named to the Beach Ball Classic All-Tournament team in 2015, and earned multiple Athlete of the Week honors.
Â
Coach Merriweather on Adderson:
"Kiana brings skill, height, and athleticism. She has scoring ability and has the potential to make an impact on the defensive end. She is a winner that has barely scratched her potential."
Â
Frierson, a 6-4 center from Long Beach, CA (Milikan High), averaged 22.8 points, 19 rebounds, four blocks, two steals, and one assist per game while leading her team to a 20-9 record as a senior.  She earned Female Athlete of the Year at her high school and was the Harry J. Moore League MVP for her conference as she was the ninth best rebounder in the state. Frierson was a three-time all CIF selection and helped lead her team to the CIF championship as a freshman. Â
Â
Coach Merriweather on Frierson:
"Tyler has only played for a short time but it is hard to tell. She has natural instincts and does great work around the rim. She is extremely coachable and has a ton of potential."
Â
Lloyd, a 5-8 guard from Fishers, IN (Hamilton Southeastern High), averaged 13.8 points, three rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.3 steals per game while leading her team to a 19-6 record as a senior. She was her team's MVP for two years in a row, and was a four-time All Hoosier Crossroads Conference selection. This past year, she was selected to participate in the Hoosier Reunion Classic All-Star game, where selected seniors compete in the Historic gym where the movie, "Hoosiers," was filmed.  In her junior year, she was named to a Junior All-Star where she competed with the top juniors in the state of Indiana.  They played against the Indiana Senior All-star team as they prepared to play against the Kentucky All-Stars. Lloyd scored over 1,000 points in her high school career.
Â
Coach Merriweather on Lloyd:
"Bre plays with incredible pace. She loves to push the ball and is a deadly threat from behind the arc. She has great strength and toughness. Her tenacity and skill will help her make a smooth transition to our style of play."
Â
Sumpter, a 5-11, forward from Myrtle Beach, SC (Myrtle Beach High) helped her team compile an 85-26 record as well as a State Runner-Up as a junior. Her individual accomplishments include, All-Region 1st Team (2014, 2016, and 2017), All-Region 2nd Team (2015), Region Player of the Year in her junior season, Toast of the Coast Player of the Year (2016), All-State selection (2016), Miss Hoop Zone Finalist (2016 and 2017), and CresCom Holiday Invitational All-Tournament Team (2016). She scored over 1,000 points in her high school career, and was selected to the Carolina All-Star Classic (North Carolina vs. South Carolina) where she earned South Carolina's MVP.
Â
Coach Merriweather on Sumpter:
"Nia is very tough. She plays very hard and takes pride in defense and rebounding. Her size and strength will allow her the opportunity to make an immediate impact."
Â
"Overall, this class brings tremendous talent, love for the game, versatility and size," Merriweather said. "They are all proven winners that understand what it means to be a part of something special. They have experienced success and have great families, coaches, and support systems. This class has the ability to continue to move us in the right direction as people, students, and athletes. They have great personalities and will be great representatives of our program as well as the University."
Â
Wright State finished last year at 25-9, advancing to its third straight WNIT. The Raiders expect to release a schedule for the 2017-18 season soon.
