The Wright State volleyball team fell 3-1 at SIU Edwardsville (20-25, 15-25, 25-23, 13-25) in the fist day of the Cougar Classic.
First Set Highlights
SIU-E jumped out to a 4-0 start, but the Raiders bounced right back to grab the lead 7-6 before the Cougars pulled away. The Raiders had 13 kills as
Katie Klusman led the way with five.Â
Jessie Thornton had nine of WSU's 21 digs. Edwardsville had 17 kills.
Second Set Highlights
The score remained close until the Cougars collected the final eight points. Klusman had four more kills as WSU recorded nine kills in the second set.
Third Set Highlights
The Raiders came out fast in the third set, leading 13-4 and 16-8. The Cougars (4-0) fought back to tie the set at 21 each as WSU stayed strong to post the win 25-23. Wright State posted 13 kills in the win.
Fourth Set Highlights
The Raiders (0-4) led early but the host rolled to a win in the fourth set. Klusman led WSU overall with 13 kills and 10 digs while freshman
Abby Barcus collected 10 kills and one block.Â
Teddie Sauer finished with nine kills and three blocks.Â
Maddie Lohmeier led everyone with 29 assists while Jessie Thorrnton led all with 25 digs.
What Coach Clements is Saying
"We had a difficult time defending at the net as SIUE was in their system often. We were able to pick up our serving and ball control in the third set which led to playing better volleyball. All of these teams are veterans, and had good seasons last year. This will only prepare us for HL play."
