Raiders Look to Stay Perfect

Friday Game Shown on ESPNU; Watch Party Sunday

The Wright State men's basketball team will take its 10-5, 2-0 record on the road to Michigan to play at Detroit Mercy and Oakland this weekend.  The Raiders will play at historic Calihan Hall against Detroit Mercy Friday at 9 pm on ESPNU, with Joel Godett and Mark Adams on the call.  They return to action on Sunday at the Blacktop at the O'rena.  The game will be shown on ESPN3.  Both games can be heard on 106.5 FM or through the iHeart app with Chris Collins and Jim Brown.

Milanos on North Fairfield Road will host a special Raider Watch Party for Sunday's game. 

Wright State Raiders

The Raiders, winners of three straight and 10 of the last 12 games, have five players averaging better than 9.0 points per game led by senior Grant Benzinger at 14.1 per game.  Loudon Love, twice named Freshman of the Week, ranks second in the Horizon League for rebounding and 97th nationally at 8.1 per game while senior Justin Mitchell has grabbed 7.7 per game.  Mitchell leads the league in total steals and ranks 49th nationally.

Wright State is off to its best league start since 2012-13 when they started 4-0.  WSU is currently 2-0 after home wins over UIC and IUPUI last weekend.  The Raiders won last year at Detroit Mercy 85-72 after falling at Oakland 81-62 to start the conference schedule.

Detroit Mercy Titans
  • Detroit Mercy (4-11, 0-2) comes into the game losing their last nine games.  They're 2-4 at home.
  • They opened Horizon League play last week with losses at Milwaukee (87-79) and Green Bay (95-83).  UDM is 2-4 at home this year.
  • Five Titans average in double figures, led by Kameron Chatman at 18.3 points and 8.6 rebounds.
  • The Titans currently rank first in the Horizon League, and 32nd in the nation, in scoring offense at 83.9 points per game. 
  • They have scored at least 71 points in 13 of the their 15 games, including three 100+ point efforts. 
  • Freshman Jermaine Jackson Jr. has been impressive in his rookie season.  The 5-10 guard has started all 15 games, and is averaging 12 points and a team-leading 3.6 assists
  • The Titans have dropped nine of their last 12 to Wright State.  The Raiders lead the all-time series, 29-26. 
 
Oakland Golden Grizzlies
  • Oakland is currently 9-6 overall, and 1-1 in the Horizon League.  They host Northern Kentucky Friday night at 9 pm on ESPN2.
  • The Grizzlies are coming off a 80-79 loss at Green Bay last Saturday.
  • OU was picked to win the Horizon League in the preseason poll.  Jalen Hayes and Martez Walker were selected to the first team and Kendrick Nunn to the second team.
  • They claim the top three scorers in the Horizon League.  Nunn leads the way at 25.2 ppg, Hayes sits at 20.1 (along with 8.3 rebounds), and Walker is at 19.3.
  • As of today, Oakland has an RPI of 103 and Kenpom of 110.  Their two best non-conference victories came against Towson and Eastern Michigan.

  • The Raiders will play at Horizon League defending champion Northern Kentucky next Thursday night at 7 pm.
