@WSUWBasketball to Play at Oakland and Detroit Mercy
The Wright State women's basketball team will continue to play the Horizon League schedule with games at Oakland and Detroit this weekend. The Raiders, 10-4 and 1-1, will play at Oakland Thursday at 7 pm and at Detroit Mercy Saturday at 1 pm. Both games will be shown on ESPN3.
Wright State Raiders
The Raiders are coming off a 56-51 win over Milwaukee after dropping the league opener to #19 Green Bay 58-51 at home. Senior Chelsea Welch continues her on-court leadership as the preseason player of the year with four straight 20+ scoring efforts. She is currently averaging 21.3 points, 4.7 points and 5.1 assists. Two other Raiders average double-figure scoring: Emily Vogelpohl (10.8) and Mackenzie Taylor (10.4). Preseason second-team player Lexi Smith is averaging 9.8 points and 6.7 rebounds while Symone Simmons sits at 7.9 rebounds a game.

- Oakland is currently 8-5 overall, 1-1 in league play and 3-1 at home.
- OU has won five of their last six games with the lone loss coming at Cleveland State last Thursday 70-62.
- The Grizzlies, who were picked to finish third in the preseason poll, also won at Youngstown State 58-48. Taylor Jones was a second-team preseason selection.
- Five OU players average in double-figure scoring, led by Sha'keya Graves at 13.2 points. Leah Somerfield leads Oakland in rebounding at 8.0 per game.
- Their wins also include Old Dominion, Illinois State and Cornell in overtime.
- Wright State leads the overall series 10-1, winning nine straight. The last OU win was on February 11, 1989.
Detroit Mercy Titans
- Detroit Mercy is currently 0-13 and 0-2 with Horizon League losses last week at Cleveland State and at Youngstown State. UDM hosts Northern Kentucky Thursday night.
- The Titans went 18-14 last year, falling to Green Bay in the finals of the Horizon League Tournament after defeating WSU in the semi-final game.
- Brianne Cohen leads the Titans with 16.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
- Nicole Urbanick recently collected her 1,000th career point in the loss at Cleveland State.
- Detroit Mercy was picked to finish fifth as Cohen was a first-team preseason selection.
- The Titans lead the overall series 25-22, winning two of the three meetings last year.
- The Raiders will travel to Northern Kentucky next Saturday for a 1 pm game against the Norse.
- Huber Heights TJ Chumps will host the Katrina Merriweather Show Monday, January 8 at 5:30 pm followed by the Scott Nagy Show at 6 pm. The shows will air on WONE, 980 AM with video through wsuraiders.com.
