#17 @WSU_Mens_Soccer Takes Care of IUPUI Saturday Night

The 17th ranked Wright State men's soccer team was back in action Saturday night at Alumni Field, as the IUPUI Jaguars were in town for a Horizon League showdown. In near-freezing temperatures and sideways rain, the Raiders prevailed in a gritty contest over the Jags.

First Half
As has been a theme for the majority of the season, the Raiders got off to a great start in the match, with Alec Philippe netting his 11th goal of the season in the third minute of the match, off of Jackson Dietrich's 11th assist of the year. Dietrich was one of the stars in the first half for Wright State, with his shot in the 30th minute hitting the inside of the right post, just missing giving the Raiders a two-goal lead. The green and gold took a 9-4 shots lead into the dressing room but continued to lead by just the one goal.

Second Half
The teams traded shots early in the second half, with the best chance early in half number two belonging to the Raiders' Deri Corfe. His bending shot from just inside the 18-yard box clipped the top of the crossbar on its way behind the net, nearly rippling the net for a highlight reel goal. Corfe seemed to have been re-energized after the chance on goal, following it up with several attacking moves up the field, keeping the ball in Wright State's possession. The match took a physical turn toward the middle of the second half, with both teams receiving numerous fouls near the midfield. The Jags' best chance of the match came on a ripped shot off a rebound in the 70th minute, but Joel Sundell was equal to the challenge, making his third of four saves in the match. Dominik Tajak made an impact for the Raiders in the second half, coming on as a substitute and getting a chance on goal in the 81st minute, but it was turned away by IUPUI keeper Quinn McCallion. McCallion had a solid night in net for the Jags, recording eight saves on nine shots on goal. McCallion's one blemish would be the eventual difference in the match, as the Raiders would go on to win 1-0.
