@WSU_MBB Uses Strong Second Half for Win

Four Raiders in Double Figures

The Wright State men's basketball team had a slow start but came back to take the lead by the end of the first half and ran away in the second half, winning 91-52 over Northwestern Ohio.  WSU outscored the Racers 58-25 in the second half.  WSU is now 5-6 overall.

Freshman Skyelar Potter finished with a game-high 17 points and seven rebounds in 24 minutes.  Three other Raiders collected double-figure scoring as Cole Gentry had 12 points and Bill Wampler and Mark Hughes each ended with 10 points.  Parker Ernsthausen grabbed a team-best nine rebounds, tying his career high.  Freshman Malachi Smith helped spur the comeback and posted nine points with eight rebounds.  WSU shot 55% in the second 20 minutes and forced 20 UNOH turnovers while winning the boards 51-28.  The Raiders scored 42 points in the paint and 28 off turnovers overall.

First Half
The game started out with the teams exchanging baskets, ending with a 7-7 tie at the first timeout.  After an 8-3 run by the Racers, UNOH took a 15-10 lead.  WSU still trailed 21-16 at the third media timeout in spite of three pointers from Gentry and Wampler.  The Raiders cut the lead to just two at 25-23 at 3:34.  A Smith floater tied the game at 25 with just under three minutes, and Alan Vest put WSU up as he connected on two free throws.  Following a Loudon Love steal, Wampler laid the ball in to increase the lead to four then seven on a three-point play from Smith, capping an 11-0 Raider run.  Wright State went to the locker room with a 33-27 lead.  The Raider scoring was spread out as Gentry had seven points.  WSU had five points from Wampler, Hughes and Smith.  Smith added six rebounds.  Wright State shot just 28% but won the boards at 23-19.

Second Half
The final 20 minutes started well as the Raiders got threes from Wampler, Ernsthausen and Gentry to take a 45-29 lead.  Back-to-back layups by Vest gave the Raiders a 55-32 lead by the 12-minute timeout and a 22-5 run.  The Raiders ran to the finish line, winning 91-52.  Potter had 13 points to lead WSU.  WSU shot 55% from the field, including seven threes.

Nagy Says
"We need to learn to play the first half like we have played second halves.  I know finals week is a tough time to play, it's draining.  We play so many games, I can't give a big emotional speech before every game so the players need to get themselves ready emotionally."
