Flames Edge @WSU_MBB in OT

The Wright State men's basketball team opened the Horizon League schedule Friday night by hosting UIC as the Flames hit a three pointer at the buzzer to win 75-72 in overtime.

WSU's Cole Gentry tied the game at 72 with eight seconds remaining, but Travell Washington gave UIC the victory.  WSU is now 6-8, 0-1 while the Flames go to 7-7, 1-0.  Gentry led all scorers with 24 points on four threes and five assists.  Alan Vest and Mark Hughes each ended with 11 points.  Loudon Love, limited with an ankle injury, finished with nine points and 10 rebounds in 17 minutes.  WSU outrebounded the Flames 48-42 while forcing 17 turnovers and hitting 11 from behind the arc.

First Half
Without preseason all Horizon League player Loudon Love to start the game, the Raiders jumped to a 10-4 start off threes from Hughes and Gentry.  Love entered the game at the first media timeout.  The Flames shot their way back into the game, tying it at 15 by the 10:06 mark.  UIC then led 20-19 at the final media timeout and took a 27-24 lead at the buzzer.  Vest had seven points and Hughes six as Love grabbed five rebounds.

Second Half
The teams exchanged baskets as WSU took a 38-37 advantage in the 13th minute.  Following a scuffle and assessed technicals to Love and Jordan Blount, three Flames were ejected for leaving the bench as UIC led 45-41.  The Flames continued to lead at 49-48 at the eight-minute timeout.  The teams were tied at 58 after 40 minutes to force WSU's first overtime game of the season.

Overtime
The teams exchanged leads and four more ties until Gentry's long three looked like a second overtime, but Washington hit his three as time ran out.  Gentry scored eight points in the final five minutes.

Nagy Said
"The real miracle is we go 11 of 40 from three and managed to get it to overtime and lose in a last second shot.  It shows how hard the guys are playing.  I am sure I have never had a team shoot 40 threes ever, but they were good shots."
