Raiders Win 10th League Game

WSU defeated NKU 73-60

The Wright State women's basketball team used double-figure scoring from three to post its 10th Horizon League win of the season 73-60 over Northern Kentucky Saturday afternoon at WSU's Nutter Center.

Senior Chelsea Welch, who was honored during the Senior Ceremony after the game, led the way with 21 points and eight assists.  Mackenzie Taylor added 17 and Emily Vogelpohl added 16 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Wright State is now 19-8 and 10-5 while the Norse drop to 8-18 and 6-9.

  • The Raiders jumped out early, grabbing a 12-3 lead off four straight WSU threes.
  • Wright State led 26-11 at the end of the first quarter.
  • The Norse screamed back, outscoring the Raiders in the second quarter 23-9.
  • The Raiders held on for a 35-34 halftime lead though NKU took the lead 32-31.
  • Welch led the way with 13 points in the first 20 minutes.
  • WSU shot 37.5% from the field while the Norse shot 46.7%.

  • The Raiders popped out again to outscore the Norse 19-11 in the third period and lead 54-45.
  • Wright State continued to play well and outscored NKU 19-15 in the final quarter.

  • Northern Kentucky outscored the Raiders 30-22 in the paint and 25-9 off the bench.
  • Wright State held an 15-14 edge for points off turnovers and 11-6 in second chance points.
  • WSU's largest lead was 15 points late in the first quarter while NKU's largest lead was just one point late in the second quarter.
  • The Raiders won the boards 36-27 and hit nine three pointers.

"Any time you play Northern Kentucky, it will be an extremely hard game.  They are well coached and play well.  They are going to make runs, rebounding and keep coming at you.  Lexi has been a four-year player here and has left her mark on the program while Chelsea has contributed so much in her two seasons with us so, both players will be remembered by fans, coaches and teammates."
