Women Pick Up Big Win at IUPUI

The Wright State women's basketball team got back in the win column with an important 66-63 win at IUPUI Friday night.

Senior Chelsea Welch led the way with 18 points and four assists as Mackenzie Taylor added 15 points and three steals.  Lexi Smith added 11 points and Emily Vogelpohl finished with 10 points.

Wright State is now 20-9 and 11-6 while IUPUI drops to 20-8 and 12-5.  It is the fifth straight season with 20 wins or more for the Raiders and the second straight under head coach Katrina Merriweather.

First Half Highlights
  • The Raiders led 19-12 after the first period as the scoring was spread around to seven players.
  • Vogelpohl led the way with five points while Welch had four points.
  • Five points came from five other Raiders as Symone Simmons grabbed four rebounds.
  • IUPUI came back to take the halftime lead at 31-30.
  • Welch had eight points after 20 minutes while Smith added six points.

  • Wright State took the lead for good at 6:21 on a three pointer by Simmons.
  • Four Raiders were in double figures at the final buzzer: Welch 18 points, Taylor 15, Smith 11 and Vogelpohl 10.
FACTS AND FIGURES
  • Wright State outscored IUPUI 42-32 in the paint and 16-11 in points off turnovers.
  • There were eight ties and 14 lead changes.
  • WSU shot 48% from the field while IUPUI shot 45% as the Jags outrebounded the Raiders 30-27.
