Raiders to play on ESPN linear networks as part of Horizon package
10/1/2019 12:05:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Coming off its second consecutive postseason appearance, the Wright State men's basketball team will have three of its Horizon League games broadcasts on ESPN linear television and are also in the running for a 'wild card' game selection as well, as the Horizon League announced its conference television schedule on Tuesday afternoon.
The Horizon League unveiled the theme "Anything Can Happen on Friday" and will utilize the hashtag #FridayisHLMBB for the matchups as all six of the league's national television games will be played on Friday nights.
The league will have six total games on ESPN linear television – four set game matchups and a pair of wild card matchups – and the Raiders have the potential to be involved in four of those, with two coming at home inside the Nutter Center and a pair on the road. The addition of the two wild card games this season ensures the best Horizon League matchups possible to a national audience on those dates.
The Raiders have the potential to be part of the national television action right out of the gate, as their road matchup at Oakland on January 3 is one of the two games selected as a wild card pick to be broadcast on ESPNU. The other game option that night is UIC at Green Bay. ESPN will make its selection at least 21 days prior to the game for the wild card matchup.
The Wright State fans and the Nutter Center will be shown off to the national audience for the first time this season on January 24 when the Raiders host Northern Kentucky. The ESPN cameras will be back three weeks later when Wright State hosts UIC on ESPN2.
Both of Wright State's home television contests will be 9 p.m. tipoffs.
The Raiders will help close out the regular season in front of the national audience on February 28 when they travel to Northern Kentucky for a 7 p.m. game on ESPNU.
The average margin of victory was five points in Horizon League games on national television in 2018-19 and five of the six games ended as a two possession or less game as nearly 70,000 households tuned in to Horizon League games on ESPN in 2018-19.
Again this season, Wright State and the rest of the Horizon League will see its full schedule streamed on ESPN+ and ESPN3. The Raiders' full 2019-2020 schedule can be seen here.
