Raiders take down Norse on the road

The Wright State volleyball team got back in the win column on Friday night as the Raiders went on the road and defeated Northern Kentucky 3-1 in Horizon League action. Wright State claimed the first set 25-23 before the Norse took the second set 25-19. The Raiders finished the night by winning the last two sets 25-22 and 25-17.

The Raiders now have a quick turn around as they travel to IUPUI for a 4 p.m Saturday matchup against the Jaguars.
 
On Friday night, Wright State led the match in kills, assists and digs. Megan Alders led the way with 14 kills, as Taylor Gibson followed close behind with 13 kills and Teddie Sauer added 12 to go into the team's 58 kills. Lainey Stephenson passed out 40 assists over the four sets to lead all players while also contributing 10 digs. Jenna Story tallied a match-high 33 digs and added 11 assists of her own. Alders led the Raiders with a .235 hitting percentage, with Celia Powers hitting a .222 clip as she knocked down 11 kills from 36 attempts only making three errors.

"Tonight was a total team effort. Our defense was disciplined and fueled our momentum. Our ball control allowed us to distribute our offense. We had contributions from everyone. I am really proud of the way that we competed tonight - it was a much needed win on the road."
 
Set 1
Northern Kentucky jumped out to a 5-3 advantage before the Raiders fought to shorten the deficit to two at 12-10. The score became tied up at 14-14 as Wright State took a two-point lead at 16-14. Northern Kentucky fought back to tie the score again as the points went back and forth and the Norse led by two points as they hit the red zone. The Raiders made a comeback to regain the lead at 23-20 and went on to win the set 25-23.

Set 2
The points went back and forth to start the set as the Norse took the lead at 9-6. Nyssa Baker added a kill for the Raiders to reach 10 points, but they trailed by two. The Norse went on a six-point run to up their advantage five points at 17-12 as the Raiders were unable to string points along and the Norse won the set 25-19.
 
Set 3
The Norse scored the first point of the set but the Raiders answered with a four-point run to take the lead at 5-3. The Norse came back to tie the score at 8-8, but Powers knocked down two kills for Wright State to regain the lead. When Sauer powered down point 15 for the Raiders, they led the Norse by four. Gibson added a kill for Wright State to reach the red zone at 20-17 before Sauer knocked down the last two points for the Raiders to win 25-22.
 
Set 4
The Raiders started the set with a kill from Powers, but Northern Kentucky was quick to answer. Wright State went on a four-point run to take the lead before the Norse fought back to tie the score at 9-9. The Raiders held a four point lead as they reached 15 points, holding the lead and moving into the red zone with a 20-15 advantage. The Raiders went on to win the set 25-17 to close the night.
