Raiders grab second win of weekend at IUPUI

The Wright State volleyball team tallied its second consecutive Horizon League victory on Saturday afternoon as the Raiders defeated IUPUI 3-1. This comes on the heels of Wright State's Friday night win at Northern Kentucky as the Raiders improved to 7-3 in HL play. 

Wright State won the last three sets (25-11, 25-18 and 25-21) against IUPUI after losing the first set 21-25. Teddie Sauer led the Raiders in kills and hitting percentage with 10 kills off 19 attempts, only committing two errors, for a .421 hitting percentage. Following with nine kills was Taylor Gibson, while Nyssa Baker added eight kills and Celia Powers added seven to the combined total of 47 kills for Wright State. Lainey Stephenson led the Raider offense with a match-high of 35 assists. Jenna Story tallied a match-high 36 digs which added to the Raiders total of 72 digs for the four-set match.
 
Set 1
The Jags earned the first point of the game from Wright State's error but the points went back and forth after that. The score tied at 7-7 before the Raiders went on a three-point run to take the lead. Wright State got to point 10 first but IUPUI only trailed by one, then answered to tie the score. The teams battled back and forth into the red zone. IUPUI led by two points as they hit point 20 from an ace. The Raiders struggled to put a ball down on the Jags side, as IUPUI went on to win 25-21.
 
Set 2
Sauer started the Raiders off with a kill to earn the first point. Wright State's offense started strong and took the Raiders into lead by five points at 10-5. Baker added a kill for the Raiders to lead by 10 points when the score reached 17-7. Wright State went on multiple runs of points to keep their advantage over IUPUI as they reached the red zone at 20-8.The Raiders stayed in control the duration of the set and went on to win 25-11.
 
Set 3
Wright State started the set winning the first point from an IUPUI service error, then Sauer powered down an ace for the second point. The Raiders led the Jags by four points as they reached point 10 off a kill from Gibson. Baker added back-to back kills to give the Raiders 15 points, holding a six-point advantage. IUPUI had a service error which put Wright State in the red zone first at 20-13. Gibson added a kill for the Raiders win, 25-18.
 
Set 4
The two teams battled back and forth and tied the score at 8-8, but the Raiders earned the next two points to lead 10-8. Mallory Ladd knocked down point 15 for Wright State as they led by four points. The Jags fought back and went on a four-point run to shorten their deficit to two points at 16-14. But the Raiders answered with a strong six-point run to take them into the red zone at 22-14. IUPUI attempted to make a comeback as the Jags were able to go on a run of points to reach the red zone down by three. Sauer gave Wright State set point with a kill, and the Raiders went on to win 25-21.
