Raiders sweep HL leader Milwaukee

The Wright State volleyball team returned home for the first time in nearly a month on Friday night, as the Raiders picked up right where they left off at home with a 3-0 sweep of Horizon League leader Milwaukee inside McLin Gym. The Raiders are now 19-4 overall and 8-3 in HL play, while Milwaukee falls to 22-3 and 9-2 in league action.

Wright State is back inside McLin Gym on Saturday afternoon, as the Raiders host Green Bay in a 4 p.m. contest. 

Friday night, the Raiders topped the Panthers in three sets with scores of 25-23, 25-10 and 25-22. Wright State toppled the Panthers in every category: kills, blocks, digs and aces. Taylor Gibson led the match with 15 kills off 23 attempts committing zero errors which made for an outstanding .652 hitting percentage. Celia Powers followed right behind with 14 kills off 21 attempts and only committed one error (.619 hitting percentage). Lainey Stephenson and Megan Alders added five kills each toward the Raiders' 47 total kills. The Raiders front line defense put up wall to total 12 blocks for the match. Jenna Story led the match in digs adding 18 to the combined total of 39 digs. Stephenson added nine digs and led the match with 35 assists.


 
Set 1
The Raiders started the set leading 3-1, but the Panthers make a comeback to take the advantage at 7-5. Gibson knocked down a kill for the Raiders to shorten their deficit to two points. Wright State fought back to take the lead by one point at 9-8. Milwaukee regained lead by three points at 12-9. Nyssa Baker knocked down a kill for the Raiders to reach 10 points before Powers added a kill and the Raiders got two blocks to take the lead at 13-12. Gibson added two kills for the Raiders to reach 21 points and Powers knocked down a kill for the Raiders' set point. A big block from the Raiders gave them the first set 25-23.
 
Set 2
Powers won the first point for the Raiders, but Milwaukee answered back with a kill. Stephenson knocked down a kill for Wright State to reach five points, leading the Panthers by two points. Sauer served up an ace to extend the lead 8-2 and Wright State went on a 15-2 run. The Raiders reached the red zone leading 20-7. Sauer knocked down set point for the Raiders and a service error from Milwaukee gave Wright State the win, 25-10.
 
Set 3
Wright State earned the first point from a kill by Powers, but the score went on to tie at 3-3. The Raiders went on a four-point run to take the lead over the Panthers at 6-3. Gibson knocked down a kill and then Sauer served an ace for the Raiders to reach 10 points. Alders added a kill for Wright State to reach 15 points with a seven-point lead. The Raiders stayed in control as they had a lead of five points when they reached the red zone. The Panthers fought back to shorten their deficit to two points, but the Raiders reached set point at 24-21 after Alders served an ace. Gibson knocked down a kill to end the match with a 25-22 set win.
