The Wright State volleyball team closed its home regular season schedule with a 3-1 victory over UIC on Friday night as the Raiders improved to 11-0 this year inside McLin Gym while celebrating the careers of seniors
Hannah Colvin and
Taylor Gibson. After dropping the first set, Wright State rolled off three consecutive set victories for its sixth straight win.
The Raiders travel to take on Oakland and Youngstown State next Friday and Saturday to close the regular season. The Raiders' Friday night win, coupled with a Milwaukee loss to Northern Kentucky, edged Wright State to the top of the Horizon League standings at 11-3, while Milwaukee and Green Bay, who also won on Friday, each sit at 10-3. Both the Panthers and Phoenix have three regular season games remaining to the Raiders' two. Milwaukee and Green Bay also face off on the final day of the regular season on November 16.
On Friday, Gibson and
Nyssa Baker led the match with 13 kills each, as Baker committed two errors on26 attempts for an overall .423 hitting percentage.
Teddie Sauer knocked down 11 kills from 28 attempts, only committing four errors, for a .250 hitting percentage. Both setters,
Lainey Stephenson and
Katie Meyer, contributed two kills each to the combined total of 53 kills for the four set match. Stephenson passed out 26 assists and had seven digs, while Meyer added 19 assists and 11 digs.
Jenna Story led the Raiders with 16 digs and contributed two aces and a pair of assists. Colvin picked up 14 digs for the match.

Set 1
Wright State started with an eight-point deficit to the Flames as the visitors were able to go on a run of points early in the set. Meyer knocked down a kill for the Raiders to reach five points, trailing by seven points. Wright State called its second timeout trailing 17-8, and Sauer knocked down two kills for the Raiders to reach 11 points. Wright State went on a six-point run to make the score 18-15. Gibson knocked down back-to-back kills to shorten Wright State's deficit to three and Sauer served a pair of aces to pull the Raiders within one at 20-19. Wright State tied the score on Baker's kill at 22-22 before the Flames went on to win the set 25-23.

Set 2
The Flames started the set leading 2-0 until
Mallory Ladd knocked down a kill for the Raiders' first point. Wright State took its first timeout after UIC extended its lead to 6-3. The Flames pulled ahead and reached 10 points as the Raiders trailed by three points. Baker put up a block for the score to reach 11-8. Ladd knocked a kill down, which was followed by a block from Sauer and Martin, and the Raiders trailed by two at 17-15.
Callie Martin powered down a kill after a long rally, and Gibson added one of her own to tie the score at 17-17. The teams battled back and forth into the red zone, but Wright State went on to win the set 25-21.

Set 3
The two teams battled early and were tied before Wright State went on a three-point run to lead the Flames at 9-7. Baker tipped over a kill for the Raiders to reach 10 points, leading by two points. The Raiders went on a five-point run to add to their advantage to gain seperation from UIC. Sauer powered down a kill to UIC's deep corner to put the Raiders in the red zone. The Flames fought back for a four-point run, but Baker ended it with a kill as the score reached 22-16. Baker knocked a kill down for set point and Story finished the set with an ace as the Raiders won the set 25-18.

Set 4
Wright State started the set off with a kill from Baker and went on to lead UIC 4-2. Gibson added two kills in a row and Baker knocked down a kill for Wright State to reach 10 points, leading the Flames by five points. Martin added a kill to extend the Raiders lead to 12-8. UIC called a timeout after the Raiders went on a five-point run to add to their advantage. Wright State came out of the timeout and scored the next two points to extend its run to seven and Sauer powered down a kill to give the Raiders an 18-9 lead. The Raiders reached the red zone leading by 10 points. Baker added a kill for the Raiders to reach set point. UIC fought back with a five-point run until Meyer ended the match with a kill as the Raiders won the set 25-16.
