Love Has Double-Double

The Wright State men's basketball team was riding a four-game winning streak, but it came to an end as they visited UIC Friday night, falling 67-54.

Loudon Love was tops for WSU with a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds while Bill Wampler chipped in 13 points, and Cole Gentry ended with 12.  Alan Vest grabbed eight boards.  WSU shot only 28% with just three three pointers as the Flames started slow but shot 46% from the field.  Wright State outrebounded UIC 39-33.  The Raiders are now 12-11, 6-4 and the Flames are 11-12, 5-5.

Gentry went 4-4 from the line to give him 43 straight, made free throws, just four from the Wright State record held by Jesse Deister (2000-02).

First Half
The Flames won the tip and scored first but Love scored two straight baskets inside.  Then, five points from Wampler off the bench gave WSU 11 straight points to grab an 11-2 advantage.  By the 12-minute timeout, the Raiders held UIC to just four points with an 11-4 lead.  Both teams were cold as WSU led 14-6 with just under seven minutes remaining in the half.  UIC came alive to outscore WSU 11-4 to trail just 18-17 by the final media timeout.  The Flames heated up to go to the locker room up 26-22.  Love and Wampler each had eight points while WSU shot only 27% from the field with a lone three.

Second Half
UIC kept the advantage until Wampler's three at the 15-minute mark for a WSU 32-30 lead.  UIC continued the hot hand while WSU struggled.  UIC led by ten at 61-51 with under four minutes to go and went on to post the 67-53 win.  Gentry had eight points in the last twenty minutes while Hughes, Love and Wampler added five points each.

Nagy Said
"We were not very good when we needed to be.  We have done this before when we were bad, but we were able to overcome it like against Milwaukee.  The defense didn't help tonight.  We need to be able to score when we have the opportunity."

Next Up
