Oklahoma State used a huge offense performance to defeat Wright State for the second straight game 17-5 on Saturday.
The Cowboys scored two runs or more in each of the first five innings, including a five-run opening frame. The Raiders added their own offense, even taking an early 3-0 lead in the 1st, but ultimately couldn't keep up with the firepower from the opposition. Zane Collins (1-1) was handed the loss. Wright State looks to avoid the sweep in the final game of the series Sunday at 2:00 PM. Daniel Kruezer will make his first start of the season after recording the save in the Raider upset victory at #10 Ole Miss last week.
1st Inning
After being shutout in game 1, the Wright State offense came alive to open the game. JD Orr doubled with two outs and the Raiders loaded the bases. Orr later scored on a wild pitch and Zach Weatherford singled to score teammates Seth Gray and Peyton Burdick. Unfortunately, the 3-0 Raider lead was short lived, as Oklahoma State used four walks and a pair of home runs to take a 5-3 advantage after the first.
3rd Inning
The Cowboys added two more runs in the second, forcing Wright State starter Zane Collins out of the game after just two innings pitched. Damon Dues drew a leadoff walk and Peyton Burdick recorded an RBI single. Oklahoma State answered with two more runs in both the third and fourth innings.
6th Inning
The Raiders found themselves on the wrong end of a 15-4 ball game to open the sixth, but didn't give up. Peyton Burdick, who finished 2 for 2 with a pair of runs and an RBI, drew his second walk of the game to open the sixth. Wright State eventually put runners at the corners and Burdick scored on a fielder's choice RBI by Kyle Casserly.
Oklahoma State added two more runs in the sixth to close out the scoring in a 17-5 home victory. Tyler Luneke and Henry Von Hollen pitched well in relief for the Raiders in the 7thand 8thinnings respectively and were finally able to keep the Cowboys off the board.
