@WSUBaseball Claims Victory over #18 Oklahoma State

WSU wins second game over Power Conference Team

For the second straight weekend, the Raider baseball team captured a top-25 win on the road. Last weekend, Wright State upset the #10 Ole Miss Rebels, and on Sunday the Raiders avoided the sweep by defeating the #18 Oklahoma State Cowboys.

After winning at #10 Ole Miss last weekend, the Raiders have historically used early-season games to post wins over ranked teams such as winning at #4 South Carolina and #10 Clemson two seasons ago and #8 North Carolina State and Georgia in 2016.  Last season, WSU won at #20 Louisiana 8-2 and 4-3 as well as at Sam Houston State, which was receiving votes, 10-6.

1st Inning
The Raiders got the game started with two straight walks by Damon Dues and JD Orr. Dues found his way to third and Burdick got just enough on the ball to score the run. The lead was quickly erased by the Cowboys, who used a leadoff walk of their own to score a run.

4th Inning
Wright State took another brief lead in the fourth thanks to a Seth Gray double and a Kyle Casserly RBI single. Once more, Oklahoma State responded and took a one-run lead after three straight hits. Kruezer got out of the inning with back-to-back strikeouts and threw a shutout inning in the fifth. He finished the game after that inning, and allowed three earned runs while striking out seven.

7th Inning
Down one, Wright State loaded the bases with one out. Seth Gray then singled, allowing Quincy Hamilton and Peyton Burdick to score, giving the Raiders the lead once more. The Cowboys tied the game again after the seventh-inning stretch. They threatened to open up a big lead after loading the bases, but Evan Moores stepped in on the mound and got a crucial ground ball which turned into an inning-ending double play for the Raiders.

9th Inning
Moores struck out two in a scoreless eighth, and the Raiders put runners on the corners with singles by Gray and Chase Slone. Gray, staying alert, darted home on a wild pitch scoring the winning run for Wright State. Moores, the eventual winning pitcher, took the mound once more in the all-important ninth inning. The senior worked around a lead-off walk and got two fly balls and a groundout to clinch the victory for Wright State.

Coach Alex Sogard commented, "His change up was very effective today against their lefties and he managed to keep them off balance and close out the game." Seth Gray led the Raider offensive efforts in the win, batting 3 for 5, scoring two runs, and driving in two more runs. Sogard added, "Seth had another great day at the plate and came up big with a few clutch hits late in the game."

"I'm proud of the way our guys competed today after a tough loss yesterday against a very talented Oklahoma State team. It was a big win against a great team. We look forward to a great week of practice and then hitting the road again next weekend."
