First Place Raiders Hope to Clinch
The Wright State women's basketball team will be hitting the road for their penultimate game of the regular season on Thursday against the Detroit Mercy Titans. The game against the Titans is scheduled to tipoff at 5:00 PM at Calihan Hall in Detroit.
In the teams' first meeting of the season, the Raiders came away with a 78-59 win against the Titans at home. The Raiders are currently in first place, looking for their second regular-season title in the last three years after tying Green Bay for that distinction in 2016-17.Â
Wright State
The Raiders (22-6, 14-2) are coming off a 70-65 nail-biting victory last Sunday against the Youngstown State Penguins at home. Against the Penguins, four Raiders scored in double-digits. Emily Vogelpohl led the Raiders in scoring with 20 points while adding four rebounds and two steals. Angel Baker finished with 14 points while shooting 7/9 from the field. Symone Simmons pulled in a career-high 21 rebounds and added 10 points. Mackenzie Taylor tallied 10 points and went a crucial 5/6 from the line to secure the win late in the game.Â
On the season, the Raiders feature four players in the Horizon League Top-25 in scoring. Mackenzie Taylor leads the Raiders with 11.9, Michal Miller adds 11.8, Angel Baker tallies 8.9, and Emily Vogelpohl averages 8.8 each outing. Symone Simmons is the team's and the league's leading rebounder with a 9.8 average per game. Simmons is currently standing at 990 career points and 992 career rebounds. Simmons would be the founding member of Wright State basketball 1000 points and 1000 rebounds Club.Â
Detroit Mercy
The Titans (4-23, 2-14) are coming off of a 37-82 loss to the Green Bay Phoenix last weekend. Freshman guard Jess Bicknell and senior guard Brittney Jackson led the Titans with eight points each in the contest, while freshman guard Jiera Shears added seven points and freshman forward Alex Burr had six. Senior guard Lola Ristovski added three assists for Detroit Mercy.Â
On offense, the Titans are led by Lexey Tobel who averages 11.4 points per game. Tobel is followed by Brittany Jackson who averages 8.4 each game. Forward Ashley Miller is the teams leading-rebounder with an average of 5.0 corrals each outing.Â
Motor City Madness Quarterfinal Tickets
The men and the women will host a home quarterfinal game on Tuesday, March 5. The women will play first at 5:30, followed by the men at 8:00.  Doors will open at 4:30. Tickets for the double-header are $10 for Premium seats (first 12 rows) and $5 for all other seat locations. Coaches Shows at Flyboys
The Wright State men's and women's Coaches Shows will return March 4 at Flyboys Deli in the Fairfield Mall forthe final shows of the year. Men's head coach Scott Nagy will be on at 6 pm. Women's coach Katrina Merriweather will be on at 5:30 pm. Fans can come by for delicious food or tune in WONE, 980 AM or use the iHeart App. It will also be streamed live through wsuraiders.com.
