Second Place @WSU_MBB Hosts Detroit Mercy Saturday

Titans Come to Town for Academic Recognition Night

Winners of six of the last seven and sitting in second place, the Wright State men's basketball team will welcome Detroit Mercy Saturday night at WSU's Nutter Center, starting at 7:00 PM.  The Raiders will honor its student-athletes at halftime as part of Academic Recognition Night.  Fans can listen to Big 106.5 FM/iHeart App or watch on ESPN+ with Chris Collins and Jim Brown.

Wright State
The Raiders, 14-11 and 8-4, have won its last two games after defeating Oakland at home Thursday night 76-62.  Against the Grizzlies, WSU dominated the second half 41-21 after being down 41-35 at halftime.  WSU scored the first 18 points of the period.  Loudon Love posted his 10th double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds while Bill Wampler chipped in 16 points.  Cole Gentry collected his 10 points all in the final 20 minutes.  Mark Hughes and Malachi Smith each ended with 11 points.  Alan Vest tied his carer high with eight boards as WSU outrebounded OU 36-27 and shot 55% in the second period.

Love leads the Raiders at 14.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game with Wampler close behind at 14.7 and Gentry at 13.0 points per game. Gentry, second nationally in free throw shooting. is hitting at a .9459 (70-74) percentage from the line, just short of Oklahoma State's Lindy Watters, who is shooting .9483 (55-58), and just ahead of Nicholls State's Gavin Peppers at .9365 (59-63). 

The Raiders lead the overall series 31-27 and had won five straight until Detroit Mercy broke the string with a 79-58 decision on Jan. 3 at Calihan Hall.  UDM freshman Antoine Davis had 48 points off 10 three pointers.  Love led the Raiders with 15 points.  WSU has won five straight at home against the Titans.

Detroit Mercy

The Titans, 9-15 and 6-6, have lost their last two games and five of the last six contests, including a 97-65 decision at Northern Kentucky Thursday night.  Antoine Davis had 26 points for the Titans while NKU had five score in double figures, led by Drew McDonald's 20 points and eight rebounds. 

UDM's Davis leads the Horizon League in scoring and ranks second nationally at 27.1 points per game.  The coach's son has scored 30 or more points in eight games, including two with 42 points or more, while playing 37.5 minutes a game.  He is hitting over 40% from three-point range, making 106 in 23 games so far this season.  Josh McFolley is the only other Titan averaging double figures at 12.1.

The Raiders stay home to host first-place Northern Kentucky Fri., Feb. 15 at 9:00 PM on ESPNU.  NKU is currently 19-6, 9-3 and will host Oakland Saturday night at 7:00 PM before coming to WSU.

The Wright State men's and women's Coaches Shows will return Feb. 11 at Flyboys Deli in the Fairfield Mall.  Men's head coach Scott Nagy will be on at 6 pm.  Women's coach Katrina Merriweather will be on at 5:30 pm.  Fans can come by for delicious food or tune in WONE, 980 AM or use the iHeart App.  It will also be streamed live through wsuraiders.com.
