#WSU_MBB Handles the Titans

Raiders will Welcome First Place Norse Friday Night

The Wright State men's basketball team used another strong second half to pull away and post an 83-60 win over Detroit Mercy Saturday night at the WSU Nutter Center.  The Raiders are now 15-11 and 9-4 while the Titans fall to 9-16 and 6-7.  Wright State will host the first place Northern Kentucky Norse Friday night on ESPNU at 9:00 PM.

WSU was led by Loudon Love's 17 points and eight rebounds while the freshmen duo of Skyelar Potter and Malachi Smith came off the bench for 14 points each.  Mark Hughes hit four threes to end the game with 12 points.  Potter added six boards while Parker Ernsthausen pitched in nine points and five rebounds.  Each team finished with 36 rebounds while the Raiders shot 49% from the field and outscored UDM 44-29 in the last 20 minutes.

First Half
Wright State starting things off well with baskets in of their first two possessions by Love as WSU led 11-7 at the first media timeout and 15-12 at the second.  By 6:57 for the third media timeout, Love had 11 points, Smith four points and Mark Hughes three while four others posted two points each as WSU led 24-20.  UDM crept closer at 32-29, but the Raiders pulled ahead 39-31 by the end of the half.  Love finished with 11 points and four rebounds while Ernsthausen had seven points and Smith and Hughes each had six.  WSU shot 48% from the field and outrebounded the Titans 19-17.  Antione Davis had 15 for the visitors.

Second Half
The final 20 minutes went along much like the first half for the Raiders as their lead jumped up to 20 points at 60-40, outscoring the Titans 21-9 in the first 10 minutes.  Potter had 12 points, and Smith accounted for eight points in the Raider second half run.  WSU shot 50% from the field and hit five three pointers.  For the game, WSU scored 42 points in the paint and 39 off the bench.  Davis had 17 points for the Titans.

"The only thing frustrating to me was the rebounding, but our kids played hard.  They made some tough shots in the first half.  Everyone was waiting for us to shoot the ball better, but it was great to see Mark go four for five tonight."

Next Up
The Raiders stay home to host Northern Kentucky Friday at 9:00 PM on ESPNU.  NKU defeated Oakland 79-64.  The Norse will bring in a record of 20-6, 10-3.  The Raiders lost at NKU Jan. 11 by a score of 68-64.
