Wright State (11-5) rallied in the rubber match against Milwaukee for a walk-off victory.
Tyler Black's single scored pinch runner
Justin McConnell to clinch both the victory and the series. After dropping Friday's matchup 10-11, the Raiders returned to Nischwitz Stadium with a 3-0 win on Saturday and took home a 3-2 victory on a frigid Sunday afternoon meeting. Both teams struggled somewhat defensively, giving up a combined five errors. The Panthers committed two critical mistakes in the final inning giving Wright State the win.
5th Inning
Milwaukee struck first in the top of the second. A two-base error put Quartel on second and he later scored. In the fifth, the Panthers added a second run to their lead after Bordner hit a single to center with runners on first and second. Raider starter
Bradley Brehmer wrapped up his first career start after the fifth, striking out four batters and allowing one earned run. The Raiders finally got to Panther starter Mike Edwards with a run of their own in the bottom half of the frame.
Kyle Casserly took advantage of a defense miscue and ended up on first and took two more bases on a wild pitch. With Casserly on third,
Tyler Black put a ball in play which allowed Casserly to come home.
9th Inning
Mike Edwards pitched seven innings for Milwaukee and Elijah Goodman threw a scoreless inning in the eighth. The Raiders brought in
Tyler Luneke and
Riley Perlich who combined for four innings of no-hit baseball. After Perlich pitched a three-up, three-down inning in the top of the 9th, the Raiders had one last chance to tie or take the lead.
Peyton Burdick hit a ball to right which was misplayed and Burdick landed on second.
Quincy Hamilton also benefited from the third Milwaukee error and took second after a single. Hamilton's hit scored Burdick which tied the game at two apiece.
Justin McConnell entered to run for Hamilton and scooted to third on a wild pitch.
Zach Weatherford battled through a 10-pitch at-bat and drew a walk. Milwaukee decided to put
Damon Dues on first to load the bases, bringing
Tyler Black to the plate with the bases loaded and one out. Black took a pitch off the plate and then hit a ball into right field allowing
Justin McConnell to score the winning run.
Wright State now holds a 5-1 record at home and has won seven of the last eight games. The Raiders will take on Cincinnati for the second time on Tuesday after defeating the Bearcats 8-3 on the road last week.
