@WSUBaseball Drops Extra Innings Contest Tuesday

Fairborn, Ohio – The Raiders were back in action at Nischwitz Stadium Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference tilt against the Xavier Musketeers out of the Big East. On a chilly, windy afternoon, the Raiders and Musketeers took part in a slug-fest, belting six home runs and scoring a total of 17 runs. The Musketeers came out on top after a 10th inning infield single gave them the late edge.

SCORING
2nd Inning – After Seth Gray was hit in the helmet with a Marko Boricich fastball, Zach Weatherford lined a two-run home run over the right-center field fence to put the Raiders on top 2-0.
3rd Inning – Riley Perlich retired the first two hitters of the third inning, but a mistake in the zone allowed Conner Grammes to hit a solo home run against the wind down the left-field line.
After allowing a run in the top half of the frame, the Raiders answered with four in the bottom half on a three-run homer against the wind by Peyton Burdick, and an inside-the-park home run by Zach Weatherford down the right field line on a ball that was misplayed by right fielder Jake Shepski.
4th Inning – The Musketeers put together a rally in the top half of the fourth, with a run-scoring infield single off the bat of Luke Franzoni and a two-run triple from Chris Givin, plating a total of three runs for the Muskies in the frame, chasing starter Riley Perlich from the game after 3.2 innings pitched, and bringing the score to 6-4 in favor of the Raiders.
5th Inning – A Peyton Burdick triple led off the frame for Wright State, and Seth Gray wasted no time bringing him around to score with a sacrifice fly deep to left field.
6th Inning – Two one-out runs in the top half of the sixth chased junior relief pitcher Mitch Gremling from the game after an inning and two-thirds, leaving two runners on base. Those two runners would come around to score against freshman Tristan Haught after a balk and a sacrifice fly, both charged to Gremling.
Quincy Hamilton pinch-hit for Connor Regan with one out in the inning, and took the first pitch he saw over the right field fence to draw the game level at 8.
10th Inning – Chris Givin led off the top half of the inning with a single, and after stealing second and a sacrifice bunt advanced him to third, a Conor Grammes single allowed Givin to score from third, giving the Musketeers a 9-8 lead.
The Raiders were able to produce two baserunners in the bottom half of the tenth, but were unable to push anything across.

NOTES
Zach Weatherford's two home runs (one inside-the-park) brings him to four on the season, tied with Peyton Burdick (also homered Tuesday) for the team lead.
The Musketeers victory Tuesday brought the all-time series to 39-33, still in favor of the Raiders.
Tuesday's loss was the Raiders' first contest of the season not decided in 9 innings.
