@WSUBaseball Routs #9 East Carolina

The Raiders have historically used early-season games to post wins over ranked teams such as winning at #4 South Carolina and #10 Clemson two seasons ago and #8 North Carolina State and Georgia in 2016.  Last season, WSU won at #20 Louisiana 8-2 and 4-3 as well as at Sam Houston State, which was receiving votes, 10-6.

This season alone, Wright State has put together wins at #10 Ole Miss, #19 Oklahoma State, and now #9 East Carolina. Each of those wins have come on the road, none more impressive then the 12-4 victory over the Pirates on Saturday.

2nd Inning
The Raiders used a huge four-run inning to open up an advantage, and never looked back. Wright State loaded the bases with no outs, and after Chase Slone recorded an RBI, Justin McConnell and Brandon Giltrow sent doubles to left field.

5th Inning
Wright State added another run to increase their lead to 5-0. JD Orr singled up the middle and ended up on second after an East Carolina error. Alex Alders stepped up and ripped a double down the left field line, scoring Orr. Zane Collins continued his dominant performance through the fifth. Collins pitched five scoreless innings to begin his third start of the season and struck out seven.

7th Inning
East Carolina got on the board in the 6th, but an offensive explosion from the Raiders all but sealed the victory. Six runs on six hits gave Wright State an 11-1 lead. Damon Dues benefitted from an error and a wild pitch and came around to score after Peyton Burdick connected for a double. Zane Harris came off the bench and singled, and Seth Gray recorded an RBI as Burdick crossed home. Tyler Black continued the hit parade with another single that brought Gray and Jorge Lozano home. Giltrow rounded out the six-run frame with a base hit to left.

8th Inning
Peyton Burdick sent a ball over the left field fence for his second home run of the season in as many games to finish the Wright State scoring efforts.

The Raiders scored their 12 runs on 12 hits. Brandon Giltrow, Peyton Burdick, Alex Alders, and Justin McConnell all recorded doubles, and JD Orr swiped two bases.

On the mound, Zane Collins recorded his second win of the year. According to head coach Alex Sogard, "Collins was very impressive tonight, he competed all night long and was able to keep their offense quiet. It was fun to watch." So too was Peyton Burdick, who "also had another big day at the plate. He made some adjustments during the game and took advantage of their mistakes over the plate."

"It was a huge win tonight, I'm really proud of our guys and we look forward to finishing the weekend strong tomorrow." The Raiders have an opportunity to sweep the weekend series at the LeClair Classic against Utah on Sunday at 11:00 AM. The Utes are 4-5 after a sound 14-0 victory over Western Carolina.
