@WSU_MBB Dominates IUPUI in Quarterfinals

Raiders to Play Green Bay in Semifinals

The Wright State men's basketball team took care of business Tuesday night as they defeated IUPUI 71-56 in the quarterfinals of the Little Caesars Horizon League Tournament at the WSU Nutter Center.  Wright State will now advance to play #4 Green Bay (17-15) in the semifinals Monday at 7 pm in Detroit on ESPNU.  WSU is now 20-12 while the Jaguars go to 16-16.

The Raiders were led by junior Bill Wampler with 18 points on four three pointers.  Sophomore Loudon Love ended with 13 points and nine rebounds while the freshman duo of Skyelar Potter and Malachi Smith finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively.  WSU dominated the boards 44-34 while shooting 43% overall from the field and scoring 38 points in the paint.  The Raiders led from start to finish and were up by as much as 31 points at 6:57 remaining in the second half.  Wright State set a new division I record with 15 wins at home this season.

First Half
The Raiders roared to a 10-2 lead after threes from Parker Ernsthausen and Wampler and two layups by Alan Vest.  WSU's control continued, leading 24-13 with five minutes remaining as Love had nine points and four boards.  Wright State went to the locker room with a 34-21 advantage.  Wampler was tops as he hit four threes for 14 points in 13 minutes.  Love ended the first 20 minutes with nine points and five rebounds.  Wright State outshot the Jags 44% to 27% and dominated the boards 21-14.  WSU held IUPUI scoreless from the three-point arc (0-8) and forced nine turnovers as the Raiders scored 16 points inside.

Second Half
It took almost two minutes, but Mark Hughes got it going with a three pointer at 18:08.  An easy layup under the basket by Wampler caused a Jaguar timeout, making the score 39-21.  The Jags did not score until a dunk at 14:54.  A steal and assist by Smith with a perfect pass to Vest gave the Raiders a 20-point lead at 41-21.  Another run by WSU gave them a 52-26 lead with 11 minutes remaining after Potter drove and kissed the ball off the backboard.  The Raiders went up by a game-high 31 points with under seven minutes left as WSU emptied the bench.  Wright State shot 42% from the field in the final 20 minutes.

Nagy Said
"We don't overlook anybody and our players know you can't look past any team.  We have a lot of respect for IUPUI.  I think that showed tonight that were ready, and we were really strong.  I told our players it's not easy to be the number one seed."

Next Up
The Raiders travel to Little Caesars Arena in Detroit to play #4 Green Bay in the semifinals of the tournament at 7:00 PM Monday night on ESPNU.  Green Bay (17-15) split the two regular-season meetings with the Raiders this year, winning last week in Wisconsin 70-67.
