@WSURaiderGang Takes First Place in Horizon League With Victory Friday

Fairborn, Ohio – The UIC Flames came to Nischwitz Stadium Friday night to take on the Wright State baseball team in a crucial Horizon League match-up, the first of a three-game weekend series. The Raiders came into the game trailing UIC by just a half game in the league standings with just three series remaining for each team in the regular season. Bear Bellomy threw his second complete game of the season, surrendering just three runs on five hits in a 7-3 victory.
 
SCORING
3rd Inning – Peyton Burdick and Seth Gray opened up the scoring on Friday night with RBI singles, and Zach Weatherford brought home two more with a triple to put the Raiders up by four. Alex Alders rounded out the third inning with a sacrifice fly, bringing the score to 5-0 in favor of Wright State.
7th Inning – The Flames brought the game close in the sixth, as an RBI single brought UIC within two at 5-3. The Raiders earned some breathing room in the seventh after Seth Gray was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Zach Weatherford drove in another run, his third of the game, to give the Raiders the win by a final score of 7-3.
 
The Raiders (30-13, 12-7 Horizon League, 1st place) take over first place in the Horizon League by a half game with Friday's victory, and will continue the series against the UIC Flames (18-17, 11-7 Horizon League, 2nd place) tomorrow afternoon. Originally scheduled for 2:00 PM, tomorrow's contest has been moved up to 1:00 PM due to expected evening weather. Tomorrow will be Family Day at Nischwitz Stadium, with all children being offered free admission!
