Raiders first sweep of the season

Wright State volleyball completes its first sweep of the season over William & Mary to mark a 3-1 record. The team started the match slow but continued to build momentum as both the offense and defense contributed to this triumph.
 
The Raiders led the match in kills at 33 with contributions from Taylor Gibson, Teddie Sauer and Celia Powers. The team committed 17 errors for a hitting percentage of .170. Gibson led the team with nine kills, Sauer contributing eight kills and Powers secured six kills.
 
As for Wright State's defense, the team totaled 51 digs and tallied six blocks for the quick three set match. Both teams displayed great defensive efforts, which showed in the long rallies throughout the match. However, the Raiders finished with 10 more digs than the Tribe. Powers led the match for both teams with 11 digs; Lainey Stephenson picked up 10 and her fellow classmates Jenna Story and Ellee Ruskaup contributed nine each.

Set 1
The Raiders were slow to start set one, but both teams made errors as the score went back and forth. Wright State secured a pair of blocks and a kill from Taylor Gibson that shortened William & Mary's lead to three. The Raiders struggled to hit around the Tribe's block. Sauer had a power kill to tie the game at 15-15. Wright State had their first lead at 16-15 then drove the Tribe into the red zone for a winning score of 25-20.
 
Set 2
Wright State came out with a strong offense to lead the Tribe 10-7. Powers got an ace to put the Raiders at 15, leading William & Mary by five points. Sauer snagged a kill to continue the momentum for the Raiders offense. Wright State had 11 kills and two aces to win the second set 25-15.
 
Set 3
The score was back and forth to start the third set, but the Raiders went on a seven-point run to reach a 10-3 score. Wright State's offense and defense worked on all cylinders to continue their lead at 16-7. Both teams missed serves, to set the score at 18-12. William & Mary shortened their deficit to two points and Wright State called a time out at 18-15. Stephenson chucked a ball into the deep corner to put the Raiders at 20 points. Callie Martin added a back row kill to give the Raiders set point, and then went on to win the set 25-19.
