
Road Trip begins Friday at Oakland on ESPNU

The Wright State men's basketball team begins a four-game road trip on Friday night when the Raiders travel to take on Oakland in a contest that will be nationally televised on ESPNU. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. in Michigan. Wright State is 2-0 in Horizon League play after opening league action with home wins over Green Bay and Milwaukee, while Oakland is 1-0 in the Horizon League after a home win over Detroit Mercy. The Raiders are 12-3 overall and have won five in a row and the Golden Grizzlies enter the matchup with a 6-8 overall mark but have lost six of their last eight.

Wright State closed out the 2019 calendar year with an 82-70 home victory on Monday night against Milwaukee. Five players finished with double-digit scoring games for the first time this season, led by Bill Wampler's game-high 17 points. Wampler finished the night 6-of-8 from the floor overall and was 5-of-6 from three-point range. Loudon Love was right behind Wampler with 16 points of his own, finishing just shy of a double-double with nine rebounds – all coming on the defensive glass. Tanner Holden tallied 14 points and Cole Gentry finished with 12 points, as both scored 10 of their final totals in the opening 20 minutes. The final Raider to double figures was James Manns, who finished with 11 points, all in the first half, on 4-of-6 shooting with a pair of threes.
OAKLAND ORIGINALS
Friday will be the 21st meeting all-time between Wright State and Oakland, with the Raiders leading the series 13-7 after sweeping both games last season and winning the last five games in the series.
The first meeting came back on Nov. 29, 1977 – a 103-77 Raider victory – and the teams also met in Jan. 1979 and Dec. 1979 but then didn't face each other again until Dec. 27, 2000 – a 87-77 Raider win in a game played at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Wright State also handed Oakland a loss (76-64) in the Golden Grizzlies' first-ever Horizon League contest, played Jan. 2, 2014 inside the Nutter Center.
GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
Oakland is 1-0 to start Horizon League play after a 78-69 home win over Detroit Mercy last Saturday. Oakland had three scorers hit double digits, led by Xavier Hill-Mais' 10th career double-double. Behind Hill-Mais' 19 points was Tray Maddox Jr., going 6-of-13 from the field for 18. Blake Lampman hit 4-of-9 from deep for 12 points of his own.
Blake Lampman was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week after finishing with 12 points and a career-high five assists against Detroit Mercy. Lampman leads Oakland with 24 made triples on the year.
LAST SEASON
The Raiders were 2-0 against Oakland last season, with Loudon Love turning in a pair of double doubles. At Oakland last January he had 19 points and 11 rebounds, and at home last February he finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Bill Wampler (19 pts. @ Oakland, 16 pts. at home) and Cole Gentry (22 pts. @ Oakland, 10 pts. at home) also had two double-figure scoring games.
SHARING THE SCORING
The Dec. 30 victory over Milwaukee was the first time this season that the Raiders have had five players (Wampler, Love, Holden, Gentry, Manns) score in double figures in the same game and was the seventh time this season that Wright State has had four or more players score in double figures in a game. In their HL opener against Green Bay on Dec. 28, the Raiders had three different players (Love, Gentry, Wampler) score 20-plus points for the first time. In the previous five instances, the Raiders had one game with two scoring 20+ points (Southern, Dec. 12) and two games with a single 20+ point scorer (Central State, Nov. 5 & Tennessee Tech, Nov. 12).
