
Wright State travels to IUPUI for Friday matchup

The Wright State men's basketball team continues its four-game roadtrip with a pair of games this weekend, first against IUPUI on Friday night in Indianapolis. The Raiders are 14-3 overall and the only undefeated team in the Horizon League (4-0), while IUPUIÂ is 5-12 overall and 1- in league action. Both sides are coming off of Sunday afternoon victories, as the Raiders came back for a one-point win at Detroit Mercy and IUPUIÂ had a 15-point victory at Green Bay.
Friday will be what Wright State is the first of two trips to Indianapolis and the Indiana Farmers Coliseum this season - the home of the Jaguars is also the new home of the Horizon League Championships. Indiana Farmers Coliseum will host the championship semifinals on Monday, March 9 and the title game on Tuesday, March 10.

Jaylon Hall's three-pointer from the corner with 16 seconds remaining lifted Wright State past Detroit Mercy 70-69 on the road Sunday afternoon. The Raiders closed the game on a 7-0 run over the final 2:17 to improve to 4-0 in Horizon League action. Wright State was led by Love, who tallied a double-double with 23 points and a career-high 20 rebounds, including doubling down with 15 points and 13 rebounds in the final 20 minutes of action alone. Love completed his stat line with four steals, three blocks and two assists in 30 minutes of work. In addition to Love, Hall was the only other Raider in double figures, finishing with 11 points, while all nine Wright State players who saw action contributed at least four points in the scoring column.
A SERIES CALLED JAG(S)
Friday will be the 17th meeting all-time between Wright State and IUPUI, with the Raiders leading the series 13-3, including winning all three matchups last season. The Raiders defeated the Jaguars 71-56 inside the Nutter Center in March in the quarterfinal round of the Horizon League Championship.Â
IUPUI won the first game of the series back on Nov. 29, 1976 (89-84) but the Raiders have had almost all the success in the series. The Jaguars other wins in the series came Feb. 23, 2018 and Jan. 8, 1986. Wright State and IUPUI met in 11 consecutive seasons from the 1976-77 through 1986-87 before the series went dormant for over 30 years.
EYING IUPUI
IUPUI opened Horizon League play 0-3 before defeating Green Bay on Sunday afternoon. The Jaguars dropped their HL opener to Youngstown State (83-73) after holding the lead with 5:00 to play before losing on a tip-in at the buzzer to Cleveland State (82-80). At Milwaukee, IUPUI had a potential game-tying layup on its final possession go long, ultimately resulting in a 78-74 defeat.
Marcus Burk netted his 1,000 collegiate point in the Dec. 14 win over Purdue Fort Wayne with a three-point play at the 12:57 mark of the first half. Burk, an Indianapolis-native, tallied 776 in two seasons at Campbell and now has 292 this season, giving him 1,068 in his collegiate career.Â
Elyjah Goss had a record-breaking night against IU South Bend on Dec. 10, posting an IUPUI school record 21 rebounds to go along with a career-high 17 points and four blocked shots in the Jaguars' 80-60 victory. Goss grabbed seven offensive boards and 14 defensive boards and hit 7-of-10 field goal attempts. The prior record was 20 on two different occasions, the most recent coming by Michael Boles in 1993. Goss became the first player in IUPUI history to grab at least 20 boards in the Jaguars' Division I era. Â

Entering the weekend, Wright State is one of just five teams out of the 353 NCAA Division I basketball programs with at least three road wins and zero road losses:

Loudon Love's 20-rebound performance on Sunday at Detroit Mercy was his career-high, surpassing a 19-rebound effort against Milwaukee on Feb. 10, 2018, and was two off the Wright State program record of 22 rebounds by Thad Burton against Old Dominion on Nov. 18, 1997 (64-52 home win). Burton finished the 1997-98 season averaging 12.5 ppg and 10.9 rpg as a senior, similar numbers to Love's current 14.3 ppg, 9.8 rpg average.
GONE STREAKING
Wright State's victory over Detroit Mercy was the Raiders' seventh in a row, their most since winning eight straight from December 22, 2017 through January 18, 2018 - Wright State's longest winning streak under head coach Scott Nagy.

Wright State moved up to No. 11 in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25, released on Jan. 6. The Raiders have been in the rankings all season long, climbing as high as No. 10 (Nov. 11 poll date) after opening at No. 13 in the preseason listing. The Raiders have wins over Toledo and Indiana State (both receiving votes) while they fell (72-71, Nov. 16) to Kent State, who is currently ranked 13th in this week's poll but was unranked at the time of the game.
