On a day that many were unsure would come, three players scoring in double figures wasn't enough to hold off a determined Bradley Braves team as the Wright State women's basketball team was handed a 66-61 loss inside the Nutter Center Wednesday afternoon.
Wright State is now 0-1 overall and Bradley improves to 2-1 overall.
After Wright State led Bradley by four at the end of the first quarter, the Braves would go on to outscore the Raiders 21-14 in the second quarter and head into the locker up 35-32 at halftime. The third quarter would see both teams score 16 but that wouldn't be enough as Bradley went on to tally 15 points to the Raiders 13 in the fourth quarter.
Angel Baker led the scoring efforts for the Raiders as her 18 points were a game-high. Baker finished the contest pulling down 11 rebounds and providing three assists. Freshman
Emani Jefferson made her name known, in her first collegiate game, as she tallied 13 points for the Raiders. The Florida native finished the contest 3-9 from the field and 7-8 from the line. Redshirt freshman
Destyne Jackson tallied 11 points against the Braves going 5-14 from the field.
Three other newcomers would see action off the bench for the Raiders as junior
KK White, freshman
Channing Chappell and
Diamond Stokes would all log minutes against the Braves.
The Raiders would finish the night shooting 33.8 percent (23 of 68), while the Braves would finish with a shooting percentage of 45.1 (23 of 51). At the line, Bradley connected on 82.4 percent (14-17) of their shots while Wright State connected on 70.6 percent (12-17).
Wright State would find the advantage in the paint tallying 34 points to Bradley's 28. The Raiders finished with five steals to the Braves three.
