Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Raiders win big Sunday, spilt series with Oakland

A tale of two days, as the Wright State women's basketball team defeated the visiting Oakland Golden Grizzlies 74-49, splitting the weekend series with Oakland 1-1, as three players finished in double-digits scoring.

Wright State improves 3-3 overall and 3-1 in Horizon League play, while Oakland falls to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in HL action. The Raiders have a break before returning to action on January 1 and 2 on the road against Youngstown State.

Sophomore Jada Roberson turned in a game-high 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead Wright State and record her first double-double of the season. Roberson's 18 points were a new career-high, and her first career double-double. Angel Baker added 12 points to record her fourth double-figure outing of the season, while also tallying three rebounds for the Raiders.

Emani Jefferson finished with 11 points and four rebounds off the bench for Wright State, while Shamarre Hale tallied 10 rebounds and 7 points against the Golden Grizzlies.

A back-and-forth first quarter ended with Wright State up just one, 18-17, over Oakland heading into the second quarter. The Raiders pulled away in the second quarter and went on a 10-2 run over six minutes and tally four more before heading into the locker room up 32-19.

Oakland looked to answer in the third quarter, nearly outscoring Wright State but the Raiders held on to tally 20 points to the Golden Grizzlies 19, a quarter that saw both teams going back-and-forth. A Tyler Frierson layup started the momentum for Wright State in the fourth quarter and that continued, as the Raiders finished the quarter allowing only 11 Golden Grizzlies' points.

The Raiders held the Golden Grizzlies to just 3-20 from beyond the arc and 31.6 percent shooting overall, while Wright State shot 44.8 percent. At the free-throw line, Oakland found the advantage shooting 58.8 percent to the Raiders 57.9 percent. Notably, Wright State's bench tallied 31 points, to Oakland's nine.

For the fifth consecutive contest, Wright State out rebounded their opponent, 51-30. The Raiders tallied as many defensive rebounds (30) as the Golden Grizzlies did in total. Offensively, Wright State pulled down 21 while Oakland tallied just 12.
