
Raiders return to road, face Youngstown State

After a league-wide week off on the women's side, the Wright State women's basketball team starts the new year on the road with a pair of Horizon League games against Youngstown State. The Raiders and Penguins will face off on Friday and Saturday, with both games set for 1 p.m. tipoffs.

Raider fans are still able to show their support during the season through the Nutter Center Virtual Sellout campaign. The campaign enables fans to have a (virtual) seat in the arena, while cheering on the team from home. Fans have until December 31 to place their order.

Wright State split the weekend series with Oakland on December 21 and 22. On Saturday, the Golden Grizzlies handed the Raiders a 75-69 loss inside the Nutter Center as two Raiders finished in double-figures led by Angel Baker's season high-season 22 points, while Jada Roberson added 17 points of her own. The Raiders shot just 30.1 percent for the game, while the Golden Grizzlies converted on 44.8 percent of their shots. The Raiders finished the afternoon shooting 68.8 percent (22-for-32) from the free throw line and the Golden Grizzlies connected on 15 of their 25 opportunities (60.0 percent).
Sunday saw Wright State bounce back defeating Oakland 74-49, as three players finished in double-digits scoring. Roberson turned in a new career-best 18 points, which was also a game high, along with tallying her first career double-double pulling down 13 rebounds in the process. For the fifth consecutive contest, Wright State out rebounded their opponent, 51-30. The Raiders tallied as many defensive rebounds (30) as the Golden Grizzlies did in total. Offensively, Wright State pulled down 21 rebounds while Oakland tallied just 12.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
- Youngstown State has yet to play a game during the 2020-21 season due to COVID-19 issues within the Penguins program.
- Senior Chelsea Olson was voted to the #HLWBB Preseason All-Horizon League First Team, while the Penguins were picked to finish sixth. Last year, Olson ranked eighth in the league in scoring and was among the top nine in eight different categories (scoring, rebounding, assists, free-throw percentage, threes per game, blocks, defensive rebounds and minutes).
- Under head coach John Barnes, Youngstown State finished the 2019-20 season with an overall record of 13-17, with a 6-12 mark in Horizon League play. The Penguins tallied a 9-6 record on their home court last season.
