Game Recap: Baseball |

Quick start not enough for Raiders on Saturday

The Wright State baseball team jumped out of the gates with a three-run top of the first inning, but Auburn scored in seven different innings to hand the Raiders a 20-6 loss on Saturday afternoon in the middle game of the teams' weekend series.

The series finale comes on Sunday afternoon with a 2 p.m. ET first pitch from Alabama.

The Raiders posted the three runs on three hits in the first frame, but were able to manage just eight hits the rest of the afternoon as they finished with 11 hits and left nine men on base. Auburn took the lead with a two-run third inning before a 10-run fourth gave the hosts breathing room that they would follow up with six more runs over the final frames.

Wright State saw three players finish with two-hit afternoons – Damon Dues, Quincy Hamilton and Cameron Rountree – as both of Rountree's hits were doubles. Hamilton and Zane Harris also collected doubles, while Rountree drove home two runs and the Raiders also received RBIs from Dues, Hamilton, Harris and Gehrig Anglin in the loss.

The scoring got started in the first when Dues opened the afternoon with a single, Hamilton reached on catcher's interference and Tyler Black singled. Rountree came to the plate and delivered a ground-rule double to plate two runs before Harris followed moments later with an RBI groundout to plate Black and give the Raiders the early three-run advantage.

Auburn cut into the Raider lead with single runs in the first (solo homer) and second (sacrifice fly) before taking the lead with two runs in the third. The hosts then tallied seven hits as part of their 10-run fourth inning, keyed by a three-run homer, to push ahead.

Wright State responded with a solo homer by Anglin in the fifth and then two runs in the sixth on Dues' fly out and an RBI single from Hamilton to cut into the deficit, but Auburn answered with a single run in the bottom of the sixth before three runs in the seventh and two final runs in the eighth.

Starter Bradley Brehmer, the first of six Raider pitchers, was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits with three walks over three innings of work.

Auburn's Jack Owen earned the win, tossing five innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits with six strikeouts. Ryan Bliss led the Auburn offense with three hits and four RBI while six different players had two hits each for the hosts.
