The Wright State women's basketball team finished their regular season play in style as they recorded a 66-58 victory over Detroit Mercy on the road, led by
Michal Miller's game-high 25 points.
With the win, Wright State improved to 18-11 overall and 13-5 in Horizon League play while also completing their regular season sweep of Detroit Mercy. The Raiders now await their fate in the Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship. Wright State can finish no lower than the No. 3 seed and the top two seeds will receive a double-bye to Indianapolis and the semifinals of the Horizon League Championship.Â
The Raiders outscored the Titans by just two at the end of the first quarter, 15-13. Detroit Mercy kept the momentum going into the second quarter and headed into the locker room down just four at halftime. The second half was a tale of two quarters are the Raiders outscored Detroit Mercy 20-15 at the end of the third but the Titans used the fourth quarter to outscore Wright State 19-17.
Senior
Michal Miller's game high 25 points, led the scoring efforts for Wright State. Miller finished shooting 8-for-15 from the field, 7-for-9 from the line and with a team leading three blocks.
Tyler Frierson tallied 12 points for the Raiders pulling down 11 rebounds, while
Jada Roberson tallied 11 points of her own. Notably, freshman
Shamarre Hale pulled down a game leading 14 rebounds.
Wright State finished the contest shooting 37.1 percent from the field (23-for-62) and 69.6 percent from the free throw line (16-for-23), while Detroit Mercy shot 36.1 percent from the field (22-for-61) and 50 percent from the line (9-for-18).
The Raiders totaled 34 points in the paint during the contest while outscoring the Titans 19-2 on second chance points.
Saturday's outing marked the seventh consecutive contest that Wright State has won the battle on the glass, as the Raiders out rebounded Detroit Mercy 51-33 with 32 of those coming on the defensive side of things.
