
Wright State hosts UIC in HL Tournament opener Tuesday

The No. 3 seed Wright State women's basketball team will begin its postseason run on Tuesday, hosting the No. 10 seed UIC in the first round of the Horizon League Tournament. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the Nutter Center and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Raiders are coming off of a 66-58 victory over Detroit Mercy Saturday afternoon, completing their regular season of the Titans. Senior Michal Miller's game high 25 points, led the scoring efforts for Wright State. Miller finished shooting 7-for-9 from the line and with a team leading three blocks. Tyler Frierson tallied 12 points for the Raiders pulling down 11 rebounds, while Jada Roberson tallied 11 points of her own. Notably, freshman Shamarre Hale pulled down a game leading 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, the Flames closed out their regular season action last Friday night falling to the regular season champion IUPUI 87-51. Jada Nneji and Kimeria Burks both finished in double figures for the Flames with Nneji finishing with 17 points, seven rebounds and Burks adding 11 points and eight rebounds of her own.
Wright State swept the season series against the Flames this season to run the winning streak to 16 consecutive wins over UIC dating back to the 2013-14 season. The Raiders have swept the season series in each of the last seven seasons and have also defeated the Flames in Horizon League tournament action twice in that span (March 2016 HL First Round & March 2017 HL Quarterfinals).
With a win on Tuesday, the Raiders would host the lowest remaining seed on Thursday, March 5 (7 p.m., Nutter Center) for a chance to join top seeds IUPUI and Green Bay in Indianapolis for the semifinals on March 9.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- Junior Jada Nneji is the lone Flame to average in double figures, scoring an average of 11.3 points per game to rank 12th in the Horizon League. She leads the team with 15 double-digit scoring performances this season after scoring a team-high 17 points on Friday at IUPUI. She also leads the squad and ranks eighth in the Horizon League in rebounds, averaging 7.3 boards per game.
- Tasha Pointer is in her second season at the helm of the UIC women's basketball program. Pointer spent the 2017-18 season as an assistant coach at Northwestern, following a two-year stint at St. John's. Prior to her time in Queens, Pointer was on the legendary C. Vivian Stringer's staff at Rutgers for eight years.
- In their final game of the regular season, The Flames tallied more assists than the Jags, 11-10, but the home team held the advantage in rebounds, 51-40. IUPUI shot 46.7 percent (35-of-75) overall, compared to 32.4 percent (22-of-68) for the Flames. UIC was stronger from three, making 27.3 percent (3-of-11) of their long shots compared to 16.7 percent (4-of-24) for the Jags.
