MILWAUKEE – The Wright State volleyball team started strong in its first action in nearly a week, but slipped up and fell in five sets to host Milwaukee in Horizon League action Friday night.
The Raiders (8-6, 0-2 HL) took the first two sets, 25-20 and 27-25, before Milwaukee (10-6, 4-0 HL) rallied for the final three sets of the night, taking sets three and four, 25-23 and 25-22, to set up the deciding set. The host Panthers jumped out of the gates in the fifth set on the way to a 15-5 mark to wrap up the night.
Wright State finished the night hitting .217 as a team, but was held to a -0.077 mark in the deciding set, while Milwaukee hit .221 as a team overall and had a match-best .571 hitting percentage in the fifth set.
Wright State was led by
Callie Martin, who tallied a double-double with a team-leading 12 kills while adding 13 digs.
Celia Powers recorded a double-double over her own with 11 kills and 13 digs, while
Megan Alders recorded 11 kills and
Nyssa Baker finished with 10.
Lainey Stephenson had the final Raider double-double, passing out 44 of Wright State's 52 assists and also tallying 13 digs.
Jenna Story had a match high-35 digs for the Raiders in the losing effort.
Milwaukee had a pair of 20-plus kill performances, as Madi Malone turned in a double-double with a match-high 29 kills and added 14 digs, while Ari Miller finished with 20 kills.
The Raiders are back in action on Sunday afternoon, as they finish the road trip with a visit to take on Green Bay in a 1 p.m. ET start. Sunday's match is expected to be streamed on ESPN+.
