DAYTON – The Wright State volleyball team made quick work of visiting Oakland on Saturday afternoon inside McLin Gymnasium as the Raiders tallied their sixth straight Horizon League sweep.
Wright State (12-9, 6-4 HL) finished the afternoon with 48 kills as a team while holding Oakland (12-9, 6-4) had only 17 total kills and ended the three sets with a -0.025 team hitting percentage.
The Raiders had three players finish with double doubles, as
Callie Martin,
Jenna Story and
Lainey Stephenson racked up on the stat book. Martin finished with 13 kills and added 14 digs, while Story posted a 26 dig, 13 assist afternoon. Stephenson divvied out a match-high 28 assists and added 23 digs.
Celia Powers joined Martin with a match-leading 13 kills of her own, while
Teddie Sauer added five kills to eclipse the 1,000 career kill mark.
Story's 26 digs inches her that much closer to the Wright State all-time program digs record, as she'll be six digs shy heading into Tuesday's match at Robert Morris.
The opening set was back-and-forth early before the Raiders took control with a 10-1 run and later closed the set with the final three points. Wright State scored five of the first seven points of the second set to jump ahead before Oakland pulled to within one at 8-7. The Raiders responded by closing the set on a 17-4 run, including tallying the final five points of the set. The final set began much like the second set, with Wright State scoring five of the first six points before later using a 6-1 stretch to grab control and close the afternoon out.
Wright State hits the road for a pair of matches next week, beginning Tuesday night when the Raiders travel to take on Robert Morris. Match time is set for 6 p.m. and is expected to be streamed on ESPN+.
