Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Osterholt's late goal not enough for Men's Soccer Saturday night

DAYTON – A penalty kick goal from visiting Robert Morris proved to be the difference on Saturday night, as the Wright State men's soccer team fell at home 2-1 to the visiting Colonials in Horizon League action.

Trailing by a goal after a first half goal from Robert Morris (2-8, 2-3 HL), the Raiders had all of the early second half momentum ahead of a takedown and penalty kick opportunity for the Colonials in the 58th minute, when Gal Ben Dayan executed the chance to push the visitors to a two goal advantage.

Wright State (2-5-1, 2-2-1 HL) continued its second half push, as Conner Osterholt tallied a late goal in the 83rd minute off a pass from Kelvin Effah, but the Raiders were unable to find the equalizer over the final seven minutes.

The Raiders outshot Robert Morris 28-5, including 18 attempts in the second half, while Wright State finished with 10 attempts on frame to the Colonials' three. Wright State tallied 13 corner kick opportunities, with 10 in the second half alone, but the RMU defense was up to the challenge, led by keeper Grant Glorioso, who recorded nine saves.

Zion Beaton finished with a match-high six shot attempts, including a pair on frame, while Harvey Slade and Presten Manthey recorded five attempts each. Osterholt tallied four attempts, all on frame, while Saul Fernandez (three) and Alex Hummel (two) also had multiple shots.

Robert Morris took the first half advantage on Ethan Romito's goal in the 37th minute, his lone shot of the night. Bryan Akongo assisted on the goal and was the only Colonial with multiple shot attempts, finishing with two.

Wright State hits the road for its next two matches, beginning next Saturday night as the Raiders travel to take on Purdue Fort Wayne. Saturday's match is slated for a 7 p.m. start and is expected to be on ESPN+.
