Offensive explosion lifts Men's Soccer to road victory

FORT WAYNE, IN – The Wright State men's soccer team recorded its highest scoring output of the season as the Raiders went on the road and defeated Purdue Fort Wayne 4-0 in Horizon League action.

Wright State (4-5-1, 3-2-1 HL) had a pair of goals in the first half less than 90 seconds apart before two additional scores in the second 45 minutes on the way to the victory over Fort Wayne (3-7-1, 1-4 HL), who dropped its third straight contest.

The Raiders' four goals were their most this season to date, bettering a three-goal afternoon in a victory over Green Bay back in mid-September.

Joe Kouadio got the scoring started in the 13th minute when he tallied his third goal of the season off a rebound chance that squirted away from the Fort Wayne keeper. It was déjà vu just over a minute later when Conner Osterholt put away a rebound opportunity in the 14th minute to double the score on his third goal of the year.

The game remained a two-score advantage for the Raiders through the break and into the second half before Zio Beaton found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the year in the 72nd minute, assisted by Harrison Rody's long throw in from the sideline. Harvey Slade executed on a penalty kick opportunity in the 77th minute after a Fort Wayne foul in the box to bring the match to its final tally.

Wright State finished the win with a 19-17 shot advantage, but put 11 shots on frame to the hosts' four such shots. Beaton led all players with five shots, including four on frame, while Kouadio and Reece Allbaugh both had three shots and both Osterholt and Presten Manthey had a pair. On the other end, Raider keeper Sebastian Jimenez turned away four shots in the win.

Luke Benford and Keith Larson led Fort Wayne with two shot attempts each, while keeper Erik Josson turned away six Raider shots despite the four Wright State goals.

Wright State returns to the road for its next match, making the trip to Chicago to take on UIC on Wednesday night in a match expected to be streamed on ESPN+. The Raiders close the regular season with four of their remaining six matches on the road, but return home to Alumni Field next Saturday, October 16 to host Oakland.
