Late goal upends Raiders on Tuesday night

PITTSBURGH – The Wright State men's soccer team was dealt a late blow on Tuesday night when a Duquesne crossing pass deflected off a Raider defender and into the net to hand Wright State a 2-1 road loss.

Wright State (4-9-1) originally took the lead in the 56th minute on a Reece Allbaugh goal via an assist from Alex Hummel, only to see Duquesne (8-5-2) knot the score less than two minutes later on Jordy Lopez's score. The match remained tied at one as the hosts made a final push late in the 88th minute and sent a crossing pass through the box and past Raider keeper Sebastian Jimenez and off the body of Wright State defender Harrison Rody, who had slid to try to prevent the Duquesne crossing pass from connecting, and into the empty net.

The Raiders outshot the hosts, 16-14, while putting four shots on frame. Three Wright State players – Presten Manthey, Brock Pickett and Allbaugh – all had three shot attempts to lead both sides, while Joe Kouadio added two shots of his own. Jimenez recorded four saves, including three in the second half, before the late score.

Wright State now gets set to close the regular season with two final Horizon League matches, beginning at home on Saturday night against Cleveland State before ending the slate at Detroit Mercy on November 3. Saturday night's contest is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start and will be Senior Day at Alumni Field.
