DAYTON – The Wright State volleyball team made quick work of visiting Youngstown State on Tuesday night, sweeping the Penguins in Horizon League action inside McLin Gymnasium in the first of three home contests this week for the Raiders.
Wright State (10-6, 2-2 HL) took the first and third sets by 25-19 scores, adding a 25-11 set two score in the middle against Youngstown State (4-12, 1-4 HL).
The Raiders were led by
Megan Alders' match-high nine kills, while
Nyssa Baker and
Callie Martin each tallied seven kills.
Jenna Story recorded a match-leading 19 digs to eclipse the 2,000-career dig mark for her career, while
Lainey Stephenson passed out 29 of the Raiders' 37 assists.
Ellee Ruskaup had three of Wright State's six aces, while
Celia Powers and
Teddie Sauer each had two blocks in the sweep.
Down two midway through the first set, the Raiders rolled off five straight points to take control of the set before later closing the opening set with the final three points to grab the early advantage. In the second set, Wright State took full control with a 7-1 run before closing the set by tallying the final 10 points of the set. An 8-2 run at the midpoint of the third set gave the Raiders more than enough room to close the night out with the sweep.
Wright State continues its five match homestand on Friday night with a 6 p.m. meeting with IUPUI before closing the week with a Saturday afternoon 4 p.m. matchup against Purdue Fort Wayne.
