Kouadio leads Raiders past Titans Wednesday

The Wright State men's soccer team tallied its first win of the 2021 spring season on Wednesday afternoon, as the Raiders went on the road for a 3-2 overtime victory at Detroit Mercy.

With the win, the Raiders improve to 1-1-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the Horizon League, while Detroit Mercy drops to 1-1-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play. Wright State returns to action Tuesday, Feb. 16 as they welcome Northern Kentucky to Alumni Field.

The first five minutes of Wednesday match were a scoring frenzy, as Detroit Mercy's Samory Powder put the hosts up 1-0 three minutes into the contest. Less than two minutes later, Zion Beaton's fifth minute goal tied the contest at 1-1. Mohamad Miri gave the hosts the advantage in the 18th minute to take the lead heading into halftime.

Wright State responded in the 48th minute, as Joe Kouadio tallied his first goal of the contest after connecting on a pass from Jared Edmonson. 90 minutes was not enough as both teams looked to score but headed into overtime. As the final seconds ticked away in the first overtime period, Kouadio tallied his second goal of the contest – a game winner, as he connected on a cross from Harvey Slade in the 100th minute to tally the golden goal, and end the match.
