
Wright State, Northern Kentucky face off in HL Quarterfinals Tuesday

The No. 1-seeded Wright State women's basketball team begins the Horizon League Championship with a home matchup against No.8-seeded Northern Kentucky in the quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.

Wright State is coming off a 56-61 loss to Green Bay on the final day of regular-season play, Feb. 13. Despite the loss, the Raiders earned a share of the Horizon League regular-season title with Milwaukee. Angel Baker's 24 points paced the Raiders while Emani Jefferson and Jada Roberson each added nine. Shamarre Hale pulled down a game-high eight rebounds for the Raiders. Wright State finished the afternoon shooting 31.7 percent from the floor, while Green Bay finished shooting 37.5 percent. The Raiders connected on seven three-point shots to the Phoenix's five. Wright State tallied nine second-chance points while holding Green Bay to just four. For the 21st consecutive contest, Wright State won the battle on the boards 39-35 overall.
Meanwhile, Northern Kentucky defeated HL newcomer Robert Morris 68-54 in the opening round of the Horizon League tournament to advance to the quarterfinals. Lindsey Duvall tallied 29 points against the Colonials to lead the Norse, while Kailey Coffey and Ivy Turner each turned in 10 point showings. The Norse shot 53 percent from the field against the Colonials, while also pulling down 37 rebounds to RMU's 23.
Wright State swept the weekend series against the Norse this season back on February 12 and 13, and now has 13 consecutive victories over Northern Kentucky.
Wright State received five Horizon League honors, headlined by Coach of the Year selection Katrina Merriweather. The honor is the second in three seasons for Merriweather, and the third time overall, joining her 2016-17 and 2018-19 Coach of the Year selections. Merriweather recorded her 100th career coaching victory on January 8 and has since tallied nine more wins heading into the postseason. Angel Baker was named to the All-League First Team for the second consecutive season and Tyler Frierson was named to the All-League Third Team. Emani Jefferson was named to the All-Freshman Team, while Frierson rounded out the awards with her selection to the All-Defensive Team for the second time in her career.
