
Raiders capture The Jewell crown; Mathiesen earns top individual honors

The Wright State golf team was the only team to finish under par this week at The Jewell as the Raiders captured their first team title of the season, while Mikkel Mathiesen took home the top individual honors after carding a seven-under finish.

The team title was the Raiders' first since capturing the Orlando Invitational in early March 2020, while Mathiesen's individual title is the first since Tyler Goecke tied for first individually in Orlando last spring.

Wright State carded a two-under 282 team score on Tuesday, finishing The Jewell 11-under overall as a team as six Raiders finished in the top six individually. As a team, Wright State was six-under on par fives on Tuesday and three-under on par fours with 30 birdies and 127 pars, leading the field in each category.

Mathiesen tallied a pair of birdies on the way to his one-under day, while Cameron Willis and Davis Root each finished two-under in a tie for third. Root carded four birdies on Tuesday to jump up the leaderboard with a one-over round, wile Willis was two-over on Tuesday. Bryce Haney finished fifth, shooting a four-under 67 on Tuesday with five birdies to end the tournament even overall.

Austin Schoonmaker and Goecke each finished three-over overall in a tie for sixth, with Goecke carding three birdies on the way to a Tuesday one-over round, while Schoonmaker was four-over in the final round. Cole Corder was six-over on Tuesday, finishing seven-over overall and tied for 20th.

The Raiders continue tournament play in mid-April at the Flyer Invitational before wrapping up their regular season when they host the Wright State Invitational April 18 and 19. The Horizon League Championship is set for April 25-27.
