Schoonmaker tied for fifth to pace Raiders after opening round

The Wright State golf team is tied for ninth after the opening round of the Sea Palms Invitational on Thursday afternoon, with a team score of 288. Austin Schoonmaker carded a four-under 67 and is tied for fifth individually.

Schoonmaker tallied six birdies, including four over his final nine holes, on the way to his 67, while Tyler Goecke had five birdies of his own as he finished with a one-over 72 and is tied for 28th after the opening 18 holes.

As a team, Wright State carded 21 birdies on Thursday, the most of any team in the 16-team field.

Cameron Willis is tied for 47th after a three-over 74, while Mikkel Mathiesen carded a four-over 75 (t52) and finished even over his final nine holes with a trio of birdies, bouncing back from being four-over through his first nine holes of the tournament. Cole Corder sits in a tie for 66th after an opening round 77.

Tournament play continues with second round action on Friday, with the Raiders set to tee off as a group at 9:15 a.m., starting on the front nine.
