Raiders, Schoonmaker both lead after opening day of Wright State Invitational

The Wright State golf team sits in first place after the opening two rounds at the Wright State Invitational on Sunday, carding an 11-over team score of 579 after 36 holes. Three Raiders sit inside the top 10 individually, with Austin Schoonmaker holding a two-shot advantage at five-under at the top of the leaderboard over teammate Tyler Goecke (three-under).

Mikkel Mathiesen and Cameron Willis, both four-over after two rounds, are tied for seventh.

Monday's final round begins at 8:30 a.m. from Heatherwoode Golf Club with the Raiders teeing off on the first hole as a team. Live scoring is available online through GolfStat.

Spectators are welcome on the course but must practice social distancing. Masks are required for entry into the clubhouse.

Schoonmaker led after an opening round one-under, extending his lead with five birdies and just one bogey on his second 18 holes. Goecke, playing as an individual, moved up one spot from a tie for third after the first round, moving from one-under to three-under after his second round that included four birdies and an eagle on the par-5 fourth hole.

Mathiesen and Willis were each one-under and tied for third after the opening 18 holes before both finishing in a tie for seventh at four-over at the end of the first day. Willis' first round included an eagle two on the par-4 18th after he holed out from the fairway on his approach shot, while Mathiesen had six total birdies over his 36 holes.

Davis Root carded rounds of 77 and 73and sits at eight-over in a tie for 21st heading into the final round Monday, while Cole Corder, playing as an individual, is 10-over in a tie for 35th. Both jumped up the leaderboard in the second round, with Corder improving 11 spots in the second 18 holes and Root jumping 25 spots. Bryce Haney sits at 13-over heading into Monday after carding rounds of 79 and 76 on Sunday.
